Snook

The Snook is one of Florida’s premier inshore game fish and is protected 5 months out of the year. It is referred to as Ole’ Linesides because of the Black lateral line that runs the length of the fish on each side of the body. Snook will eat live bait, artificial lures and flies with reckless abandon. The best months for Snook are April thru October. The summer months are closed and the Catch and Release fishing for them is the best in the world. It is not uncommon to log catches of 20 or more fish in a day.

Snook in the Stuart area can weigh up to 40 lbs but the average is in the 8-15 lb range. The slot limit for these fish is now 26”-34” with no fish over 34” and two fish may be kept per day per angler. We encourage catch and release but if need be the fish may be kept for the dinner table. The Snook will jump several times during a fight and will pull drag and do whatever possible to escape. lf there is structure such as docks or pilings it will try to get into that structure to break off and that is why it is revered as such a worthy opponent. Its table fare is considered to be excellent.
